Chikungunya is a potentially debilitating mosquito-borne disease, caused by the chikungunya virus.

While many people fully recover from a chikungunya infection, more than 2 in 5 people will develop long-term symptoms that can affect their quality of life.

With no treatments beyond supportive care, getting travellers to protect themselvesd against bites is critical.
Our campaign helped raise awareness of chikungunya and its effects, and encouraged people to visit a travel health professional before they set off to ensure they were protected.
How far would you go to protect yourself from chikungunya?
Our disease awareness campaign was designed to grab attention through hyperbole, showing a holiday maker lounging in a hazmat suit to avoid mosquito bites.
Copy on the ad revealed that there were much more practical methods to help achieve protection against chikungunya while on holiday, and directed the reader to chikungunya.com, where they could learn more about how to avoid bites, and make them aware that vaccinations against chikungunya are available.
The campaign ran internationally, across the Nordics, France, Germany, the US and the UK, where we purchased media space with TFL and ran ads across the London Underground network, with video ads at key stations travellers would frequent on their way to the airport.
